5 Day Intensive: The Cosmic Christ, Buddha Nature, Image of God - Boulder, CO

Matthew Fox leads the 5-day intensive, "THE COSMIC CHRIST, BUDDHA NATURE, IMAGE OF GOD AND THE ECOLOGICAL IMPERATIVE TO RE-SACRALIZE THE EARTH" at the Fox Institute for Creation Spirituality in Boulder, CO.

Surely a recovery of a sense of the sacred is at the heart of the medicine for confronting dangerous ecological crises that our planet and its peoples are facing at this time. Einstein said that as humanity outgrows religious habits of seeing God in human terms, we need a cosmic religion grounded in conscience. At this crucial time in human and planetary history, we have an opportunity to awaken this truly universal religious sense that acknowledges the sacredness of nature and all life.

In this course we will engage in this creative work by recovering sacred archetypes: the Cosmic Christ of the Christian mystical tradition, the Buddha Nature from Buddhism, and the Image of God from Judaism.

In this class we will explore Buddhist writers like Thich Nhat Hanh; Christian writers including Thomas Merton, Meister Eckhart, Hildegard of Bingen and Mary Oliver; and Rabbi David Seiderman’s work on Jewish ecology. We will reflect together on how humanity today including its various spiritual traditions can build a way of being that allows us to live these words of Thomas Berry: “Ecology is functional cosmology.” We need a new and bigger and more sacred story than extractionist capitalism offers, as Naomi Klein points out, if we are to survive
